The World Intellectual Property Organization is organizing a workshop on mediation and arbitration

 

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will hold the "Online Workshop on Mediation and Arbitration" from November 28 to 30, 2023. The workshop, which can be attended online, aims to promote and understand the use of mediation and arbitration for alternative resolution of intellectual property conflicts.

The first session will begin with a welcome by Heike Wollgast, Head of the Intellectual Property Disputes Section at the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. Following this, Margarita Kato, representative of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center in Singapore, will provide an overview of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. Next, Joyce Tan, Managing Director of Joyce Tan & Partners, will address "Mediation in Intellectual Property and Technology: The mediation process and the role of different actors." Martin Hauser, a Mediator, will then present his conclusions on mediation.

The second session will start with a presentation titled "Overview: WIPO Arbitration and Expedited Arbitration" by Andrzej Gadkowski, Officer of the Intellectual Property Disputes Section at the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. Chung Nian Lam, Intellectual Property, Technology, Media, Telecommunications, and Data Protection Lawyer at WongPartnership LLP, will analyze intellectual property and technology arbitration. The day will conclude with a presentation by Philipp Groz, Partner at Schellenberg Wittmer, on "The development of WIPO Arbitration and Expedited Arbitration procedures."

Finally, the last session will begin with a presentation by Jan Ahrens, Senior Conflict Resolution Advisor at Siemens AG, and Mattia Fogliacco, President of Sisvel International SA, on "The use of ADR for disputes on intellectual property and technology." Following this, Joachim Feldges, Member of the WIPO Mediation and Arbitration Advisory Committee; Kathleen Paisley, international arbitrator and mediator; and Chiara Accornero, Officer of the Intellectual Property Disputes Section at the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, will address the "Drafting Effective Submission Agreements and Clauses for Mediation, Arbitration, and Dispute Resolution Panels in Intellectual Property and Technology Disputes."

The workshop is intended for mediators, arbitrators, intellectual property lawyers, and professionals interested in international mediation and arbitration procedures. In November 2022, the Instituto Autor, in collaboration with the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, launched the "Mediautor - Mediation Center specialized in intellectual property and cultural industries" project.
