On February 2, 2023, Marisa Castelo, President of the Instituto Autor, participated in the third edition of the "Professional Meeting: Theatrical Book," organized by the Cultural Association Artistas Y., under the title "Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Piracy." The objective was to analyze the legal and technological aspects of Intellectual Property on the Internet and its impact on the literary sector.

This event featured the participation of publishing houses from Spain and Latin America, as well as companies, sector specialists, and representatives and experts in intellectual property matters.

The event was divided into two roundtable discussions with room for debate among attendees and speakers. First, the topic of "Intellectual Property and Rights of the E-book" was analyzed, followed by a discussion on the "Challenges of Books on the Internet. Piracy."

In particular, Marisa Castelo participated in the first roundtable, addressing the "Mediautor Project" and highlighting the advantages of the mediation process and the main characteristics of mediation under "Mediautor - WIPO."

As we have been reporting, since 2020 the Instituto Autor has been working on the "Mediautor Project," aiming to provide a specialized mediation service for conflicts arising in the field of creative works and cultural projects, specifically related to intellectual property and cultural industries, as well as disputes regarding image rights.

As a result, in June 2022, the Instituto Autor signed a collaboration agreement with the World Intellectual Property Organization's Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO), the entity responsible for mediation and arbitration proceedings to enable private parties to efficiently resolve their national and cross-border commercial disputes. The agreement aimed to promote alternative dispute resolution methods and jointly develop the MEDIAUTOR - WIPO Mediation Rules, which will be applicable to resolving conflicts managed by both entities.

Finally, on November 11, 2022, the presentation of "MEDIAUTOR" took place, becoming the First Specialized Mediation Center in Intellectual Property and Cultural Industries, created by the Instituto Autor in collaboration with the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
