Between December 8 and 17, 2023, the 44th edition of the "International Festival of New Latin American Cinema" was held in Havana. The festival, founded in 1979 by the Instituto Cuba del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC), aims to promote film productions in Latin America.
Various activities took place during the festival, including workshops, screenings of audiovisual works, award ceremonies, and conferences. On December 11, Marisa Castelo, President of the Instituto Autor, participated in the VII International Workshop "Opportunities and Challenges of Audiovisual in the Regional Context." The workshop focused on addressing audiovisual heritage and historical memory, as well as the digital audiovisual ecosystem, including streaming platforms, content, contexts, and realities. In particular, a masterclass was offered on the "Change of model in contracting and the protection of copyright."
Marisa Castelo also took part in the "New Perspectives" program organized by the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV), where she lectured on the "Current panorama of audiovisual and intellectual property rights in Spain and Europe." She analyzed the emergence of audiovisual platforms in Spain, the protection of intellectual property rights, the development of generative artificial intelligence as disruptive technology, and the financing and co-production of audiovisual works. Finally, she addressed the "MEDIAUTOR" project as a specialized mediation center for intellectual property and alternative conflict resolution.
