On February 1, 2024, Marisa Castelo, President of the Instituto Autor, participated in the event 'The resolution of audiovisual conflicts through arbitration,' organized by the Illustre Colegio de Abogados de Madrid (ICAM).
The event began with a welcome from José Ignacio Monedero, Secretary of the Governing Board and President of the Arbitration Court of ICAM. The panel was moderated by Leonor Aguera Jaquemet – Spanish and French Arbitrator. ArbInterLaw (UK). Member of WIPO ADR Young.
Following this, Paulino Cuevas – Spain Film Commission -; Marisa Castelo - Arbitrator. Lawyer specializing in intellectual property and cultural industries. Founder of the MEDIAUTOR Chamber WIPO -; and Mercedes de Parada y Rodríguez – Lawyer and Managing Partner of LETRODOX Abogados, discussed the resolution of audiovisual conflicts through arbitration.
In particular, the participants highlighted the importance of tax incentives to promote film production in Spain, as well as the requirements that production companies must meet to access incentives and grants. They also emphasized the importance of including arbitration and mediation clauses in contract signings.
Marisa Castelo, in her part, addressed her experience in the audiovisual sector. Furthermore, she advocated for resorting to mediation before entering into an arbitration process. She also analyzed the functioning of Mediautor, a Mediation Chamber specialized in intellectual property and cultural industries, created in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
